Mangaluru, Jul 18: Sharada Group of Institutions organized a day long district educational conference at Sharada Pre-University College hall on July 18.

It was also a get together programme for the teachers and professors of Vidya Bharati Karnataka Dakshina Kannada district.

Senior RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Vasantha Madhava associate secretary of Vidya Bharti Karnataka welcomed the guests.

Speaking at the occasion Prof M B Puranik, president of Sharada Group said, "Our ancestors gave vital importance to education during their time. The teacher was referred to as 'Guru' and the school as 'Gurukula'. The education system was westernized during the British rule. They dominated the education system by provinding grants to the institutions. Thus the old Indian education system got destroyed."

"A teacher plays a vital role in creating the spirit of patriotism for the country in schools. The teachers have to put in extra effort to teach the students about Indian culture and cleanliness. The students learn more through the deeds of their teachers and not by mere words. Education now has become a business, centering around grades and marks. The unhealthy competition in education is degrading the values of the Indian culture. This is why a conference is organized today to explain to the teachers the real meaning of education and thus pass it to the students at school," he added.

The organising secretary of Vidya Bharati, G R Jagadish, trustee S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, K S Kalluraya were present at the occasion.
