Allappa (60) of Nandihalli in Kora hobli of Tumakuru taluk hung himself from a tree near his land. He had called up his son and daughter in the morning saying that he was finding it difficult to repay the loans.

Vedamurthy (31) of Konemadanahalli in Gubbi taluk ended his life by hanging himself from a rafter of the primary school in the village. He is said to have borrowed loans from several banks. He had sunk three borewells and none of them yielded water. Thirty-two-year-old Arunkumar of Kotta village in Sira taluk hung himself in his house on Friday night. The incident came to light on Saturday.

Huchchegowda (55), a farmer of Bannamgadi village in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district ended his life by consuming pesticide. He owned two acres 20 guntas of land and had sunk three borewells. None of them yielded any water. However, the fourth borewell, drilled recently, yielded water. Gowda was growing flowers depending on the water from this borewell. But, this too dried up a few days ago as a result of which the crop started to wither away. According to the complaint lodged by Gowda’s son Jagadish, his father had borrowed Rs four lakh from private persons for agriculture purposes. A newly elected gram panchayat member attempted to immolate himself by setting his sugar cane crop on fire in Machagowdanahalli of Mandya taluk.

Chikkaboregowda owns six acres and had grown sugar cane on three acres. He had sunk six borewells, all of which failed. Gowda is said to have borrowed Rs three lakh from banks and Rs one lakh from private persons. He had set fire to sugar cane crop on Saturday morning and attempted to jump into it when the owner of the neighbouring land rescued him.
