Smooth functioning of Parliament shared responsibility: PM at all-party meeting

New Delhi, Jul 20, (PTI): With the Monsoon Session beginning tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today appealed to parties to utilise Parliament time for discussing all issues and said running both the Houses is a shared responsibility of all, even as he exhorted them to move forward on the contentious land bill.

At a meeting with leaders of all political parties here, he asked them to collectively move forward on issues discussed in the last session while keeping the country's interest in mind.

With important legislations like the land bill, the GST bill and the real estate bill pending before Parliament, the government is seeking the support of all parties in their early passage.

The Monsoon Session that is likely to end on August 13, is expected to be a stormy affair with Congress and other parties giving indications to that effect. Congress and other opposition parties will raise the demand the removal of Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the wake of their alleged involvement in Lalitgate and Vyapam scam.

"Of course, it is the responsibility of the government to run the House and we have to take the initiative for it, but this responsibility has to be shared by all.

"It is time to move forward. All of us have to collectively move forward. The country's interest is paramount. Certain issues discussed in the last session need to be taken forward," the Prime Minister said at the meeting.

Quoting SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, Modi said, "It is time that we should move forward on the land bill issue, incorporating suggestions from all sides. We should move positively on this issue."

He said the Monsoon Session was short and hence its time needed to be utilised for debating important issues for which the government was ready.

"There are many outside forums where various issues are discussed extensively. The Monsoon Session is short, hence the time of Parliament should be used for debating issues which are relevant and important," he said.

The Prime Minister told the leaders that Parliament has a major significance and it should be utilised to discuss all issues as the government is ready to discuss all issues.

Leaders of Congress, JD(U), SP, BSP, RJD, AIADMK, DMK and Left parties, besides allies of NDA, participated in the meeting. There was no representative of Trinamool Congress at the meeting.

Congress had yesterday firmly put the onus on the government for the smooth running of Parliament by demanding a "minimum action" in removal of Swaraj, Raje and Chouhan even as BJP decided to vigorously counter the expected onslaught, setting the stage for a stormy session.

Mounting an offensive on the government, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said the running of Parliament and passage of important bills will be "more easy" if BJP takes action against these leaders while it will also help the party in "correcting" its image which has taken a hit due to the scams.

It is so easy to say "please co-operate now that we are governing!!!"
whereas same BJP was hi-jacking session after session of parliament where so many important bills were stalled\never passed thus affecting the economy of the country during UPA rule. It is not at all true that UPA was not efficient...
BJP was doing that, just because they thought there was no chance for them to come to power. But suddenly thanks to some scams during UPA (which are still to be proved) now they are in power and afraid\feel the heat of their own doings and begging Opp. to co-operate.
But BJP with their crooked ways will somehow get their way and corrupt ways of doing things will prevail.
People will realise by next elections how they have been taken for a ride by BJP especially by Modiji.

Modiji is expecting a very smooth and calm parliament session. It won't bother to keep the politically stain people as Minister. As long as they belong to his own party, he will not speak a word against them. But the opposition will have to be in order without questioning his order or law. Wait and see!

    guys, dont give us bulls#it..

we have seen when Vajpayee won 161 seats also these people didnt let him function for more than 13 days! ..there was no godhra, modi or church attacks!... it is all bayaan baazi... they didnt let him function for more than year in 1998 even when he had 180 seats... and they stopped everytime there was BJP govt! ..so this will continue.. people have always given more seats when they stopped them!... UPA1 functioned well with opposition help, even when they had considerbale number of seats...only post nuclear deal, Left and BJP have oppsoed them.. how did they pass land bill, and RTI or Lokpal bill and many crucial bills without help of opposition? anyways, Land bill is not a do or die for Modi.. it lands very low on his priority now. his aim is congress mukt bharat..the more you do agitational politics, the very low you will fall in HINDU voters and farmer and poors eyes.. this may impress Muslims and christians now .. but they are the same when one Owaisi or Muslim league comes, will ditch congress royally too.. results will be seen pretty soon... stay tuned! bringing in new legislation on land reforms now, will be defeated - superceding the ordninace way as well- and making it difficult for joint session way... so, let rahul still fall further! vhe vhe vhe

We can understand the fear and frustration of BJP to face the Parliament in the monsoon session. World record scams and murders in 1 year Modi rule.Still the opposition should keep silence. What is Modi trying to say to the nation..Why cant the scam tainted saints of BJP resign and save the pride of our country. India's prestige and honour is at all time low under Modi. PM only fit to shake hands with Pakistan PM and nothing else.

As far as Landbill ordinance is concerned, 99% of representation to committee are against the ordinance. So its undemocratic to move with landbill with 99 percent resentment.. even BJP backed unions are against the ordinance.

Guys, modi is a chaloo chapati.. his political acumen, you cant neglect! truth is even he doesnt want LAND BILL until Bihar elections!.. so he will be happy if this session gets washed away.

when he gets thumping victory in Bihar, that will be acceptance of his policies, which are stalled in parliament and he can push it in a joint session in winter with more agression and vigour!... Baap baap hota hai!...

even media now knows the concentrated united opposition is not withstanding, congress may get just 4 seats in 220 odd seats, which will set 56 days of absconding of pappu to 56 months! vhe vhe vhe

    Dear Chaaiwaala PM,

The parliament will run smoothly on the following reasons:

    1) Ask your hench-men, did they allow the parliament to run smoothly during the UPA rule.

    2) Did the BJP allowed /shared responsibility for the smooth running of the parliament?

    3) Better you make world tour the parliament will run smooth.

The role when BJP was in opposition was 122 seats & a coalition UPA 1 & 2, today scenario is different
