China to strengthen coastal defence


Beijing, July 20 (IANS): China's Defence Minister Chang Wanquan has said that efforts should be made to boost development of the country's coastal defence.

Chang made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting at the Jinan Military Area Command, Xinhua reported.

He said the overall national security outlook must be upheld and strategic importance should be attached to coastal defence.

Chang added that economic development and strengthening national defence should be balanced and coordinated.
