Armed robbery at Indian supermarket in Australia

Sydney, July 21 (IANS): A man robbed an Indian supermarket in Coffs Harbour, a coastal city of Australia, after threatening the shopkeeper at knife point, media reported on Tuesday.

Coffs Harbour is located about 540 km north of Sydney.

The robbery took place around 7 p.m. on Monday when a man in his 20s entered the store on Grafton Street and emptied the cash register into a plastic bag, The Bellingen Shire Courier-Sun reported citing police.

The robber also took some cash the shopkeeper was holding before fleeing the store.

According to Australian Broadcasting Corporation, those who witnessed the robbery were left shaken.

"Anybody who goes through one of these experiences, does suffer significant amount of immediate harm and certain fear," detective inspector Darren Jameson was quoted as saying.

"They'll be provided support throughout the next couple of weeks by us, and a referral to other assistance if they need it," he added.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the robber, who was last seen wearing a dark grey hooded jumper, light blue jeans and dark shoes.
