Udupi: SP Annamalai swings into action - Warns bikers against reckless riding

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 22: Taking cognizance of a sharp increase in the number of road accidents caused by reckless motor bike riders of late, district superintendent of police, Annamalai K, personally jumped into action to warn the concerned. The policemen of the discrict have witnessed of late an alarming increase in the number of motor bike riders who adopt haphazard driving, over speeding, and reckless riding as if to impress others through this act, which they seem to be owning as a fashion statement.

Annamalai, who himself stood near MGM College on the road between the town and Manipal on Tuesday afternoon, personally stopped students and young persons, who were seen to be riding their two-wheelers in an erratic manner. He sent them away after giving them a terse warning.

The SP asked about 20 of these youngsters to personally visit his office with their parents. He said that only warning had been issued in this preliminary stage. He said cases will be registered against the guilty of such incidents recur. He asserted that vehicle drivers do not have the liberty to ride their vehicles at their own whims and fancies and that they are bound to follow traffic rules. He also informed that his department plans to tackle those who ignore traffic rules when moving on the roads, in the coming days.

Annamalai said similar surprise checks will continue to be organized at different points in future.

Is it the job description of an SP to check driver's licence etc. ???

Is Annamalai capable of instructing traffic police to do their duty in a responsible way ??

Everyone knows RTO, Traffic police of Karnataka are the most corrupt in the world.

Good intiative by SP. Same time ban on bikes rallys for any reason which disturb the public and trafic.Bus and truck drivers killing bikers in most of the accidents need to be chekcked. Unless implimenting lane discipline our standard remains same.

I salute the sp for doing the great job of correcting the children . All wait others to tell their children why not we ourselves stop this doing. Status matters alot in the society . The costlier the bike the more reputation he earns . Pls stop exhibiting and let not the children die in the accident. Life is precious money can buy anything but not life.

Great work SP saab. Your concern towards road accidents and deaths are appreciated, but the reckless drivers/riders should understand the value of their own life & others life too.

Call parents of reckless riders to your office, seize speeding modern bikes & exchange it to Luna mopeds.

9999 and 666 are the opposite calculation figures How the parents were encouraging their kids by giving them bikes in a small age. So it is the duty of police dept to control reckless riding. So it is the good job from Mr. Annamalai SP. hats off go ahead.

There are so many two wheelers plying on the road without number plates. It has become a trend with the youngsters to remove the number plates and ride the two wheeler rashly. They don't bother about other vehicles on the road and enter from the side roads without looking at the main road.
Especially, this trend is very common near colleges and bus stop where large gathering of ladies present. Secondly, some numbers are very difficult to read. Pathetically our RTO don't have a standard format for the number plates. Anyone can choose any style while fixing the number plates. Hope SP sir will look into this matter and instruct the concerned to take action against these riders.

Yes. It is two Wheelers who have to be very cautious. Any mistake by the rider can end in a fatal accident. In today's scenario, any amount of caution is not adequate. Apart from careful driving the two wheelers should also watch for reckless driving on the part drivers of of buses, trucks and also three wheelers.

It is very important for the bikers to ensure that they do not overtake from the left side of passing vehicles.

It is good to see S.P. Annamalai very vigilant and working for the safety of people of all classes.

SP Annamalai, Blame their parents, these kids are spoilt by their parents. then when the son or daughter dies in an accident then the parents will sit and cry before the body, oh he/she was so nice and loving to all of us and studying very good, before the worst can happen parents please stop this trend of giving bike or cars to kids they are going to school/college to study, not to show off, FOCUS on your studies...

    Dear Bryan,
Once children reach 16-17, it is really very difficult to control and manage them.
They become product of the environment and their friends, acquaintance.
We must pray daily to keep them safe from evil company and works.
Parents may not give them bike or cars but they will get from friends and adversaries. Drugs in the form of cigarettes is another big evil.
Fear of the law may deter them, but sensitive ones, if caught will commit suicide.
Restricting their freedom is too difficult. Their frustrations will have bearings in parents lives, peace and work. Day by day world is turning bad to worst!

Yes, I appreciate, we must love them unconditionally. However once they grow up, they are not in the control or influence of their parents. They choose their company. We need to pray for them. I know so many instances of God fearing families children, studied engineers, working in Bangalore and elsewhere have got addicted to drugs. What to say?
