Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 22: M C Abbas (74), who had served as additional personal secretary when P M Sayeed was union minister, lost his life in a tragic accident in the city on Monday July 20 evening. He was killed after a motor bike which dashed against an auto rickshaw lost its direction and knocked him down.

Abbas, a resident of Attavar here, was waiting to cross the road opposite Sky Bakery on Monday evening to visit mosque, when he became victim of the accident.

It is gathered that the driver of an auto rickshaw that was moving towards the railway station at Attavar suddenly applied brakes to pick up a passenger who had signalled him to stop. A two-wheeler which was following the auto rickshaw hit the three-wheeler from the backside as its rider was taken by surprise at this sudden development. Driver of the motor bike, identified as Shivaraj, lost control over his vehicle, which then hit M C Abbas, it is gathered.

Due to the force of the accident, Abbas got slammed onto the road, as a result of which he suffered serious head injuries. He became unconscious, and was rushed to a private hospital in the city immediately. He remained in the intensive care unit of the hospital. As the nature of his head injuries were grave, he did not respond to treatments, and died at around 3.30 am on Tuesday, sources said.

The police personnel said that carelessness on the part of the auto rickshaw driver had caused this accident. A case in this connection was registered by the city (east) traffic police station personnel.

Abbas had served as additional personal secretary to P M Sayeed when the latter was the deputy speaker and union minister. During this period, he had shifted his residence for about ten years to New Delhi. Thereafter, he lived in the city, most of time getting involved with social service initiatives.

Abbas has left behind wife, two sons, and a daughter.

Dear sorrowing members of Abbas’s family,

I just had to let you know how deeply saddened I am to hear the passing away of my dear school mate and my dear Friend Abbas. We both studied in Rosario High School and he was always a cheerful and helpful person . He was always there without expecting a thing in return and yet he was always richer for giving . I just wanted you family members to know how deeply saddened I am on your loss. You know how very close he and I were. I am proud to call him my friend and I will miss him very much. We have lost one of the kindest and gentlest people I have ever had the privilege to know. I am feeling your pain and sorrow at this difficult time. You have my sincere sympathies.
I will always be thankful to God that I had the opportunity to get to know him better and to call him a friend. I will cherish his memory for years to come.
The poet Yeats once wrote "Count where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory is I had such a friend."
Friends are a gift from God
They bring us joy and happiness
And help us in times of need
That's why I can truly say
How glad I am I had this friend
I will say a special prayer each day in his memory in thanks for having had the opportunity to know him and count him among my closest friends. I will pray also for you and your family that you have the strength to carry on.
Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him and may his Soul Rest in Peace……..Amen.
    In Sympathy

May His Soul Rest in Peace we pray. RIP dear sir.
It is so unfortunate that reckless driving of few drivers results in people loosing lives. Either it is a 02 wheeler driving / buses or trucks or even 03 wheelers, driving recklessly, not following Traffic Rules has become norm of the day. Unless stringent actions are taken against erring drivers, we will not have a relief from this.
RTO/ Police personnel kindly do something before it is too late.

    Dear RTO.
Request you to conduct compulsory Road safety measurement training for all tourist Vehicles drivers for a mandatory 3 days training every year at time of tourist vehicle inspection time. Give this Task to private agency and there should be online exams these drivers should pass.

    1. Safe driving
    2. First AID
    3. Road Safety
    4. Signals Hand and Vehicle
    5. Vehicle maintenance
    6. Lane discipline Etc

without this training please cancel their permits or badges.

This training should be compulsory for private vehicle owners at the time of registration or applying the license. Education is the only solution for this problem.
