Congress postpones silent protest after Sushma tweet

New Delhi, July 22 (IANS): The Congress on Wednesday postponed a silent protest against the BJP government over the Lalit Modi controversy and the Vyapam scam.

The protest which was to be held outside the parliament house complex was to be led by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

The decision to postpone the protest came shortly after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's tweet in which she has accused a Congress leader of seeking diplomatic passport for a person accused in the coal scam.

The party also moved an adjournment motion on the Lalit Modi issue in the Lok Sabha. The motion was moved by Congress leader of the house Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Veerappa Moily.

Asked to comment on the issue, Rahul Gandhi told reporters before entering the parliament that he would speak in the Lok Sabha.

The Congress has been demanding the resignations of Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over their links with Lalit Modi.
