Tibetan PM wants China to hand over prisoner's ashes to family

Dharamsala, July 22 (IANS): Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay on Wednesday urged China to hand over the ashes of Tibetan political prisoner Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche to his family.

He also called for the release of Rinpoche's sister and her daughter who reportedly went missing after being detained by Chinese police.

Speaking at the launch of the Tibet Policy Institute's new journal, Sangay expressed solidarity with the relatives and disciples of Rinpoche, who died under mysterious circumstances on July 12 while serving life sentence.

He said Rinpoche's relatives and disciples fear that Chinese authorities might have poisoned him, after it was revealed that his lips and nails turned black.

The Tibetan administration-in-exile is based in this hill town in Himachal Pradesh.
