No shortage of ITBP personnel on Sino-Indian border

New Delhi, July 22 (IANS): There is no shortage of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel on the 3,488 km border with China and "routine vacancies" will be filled up, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said vacancies arising due to retirement and resignations would be filled up by direct recruitment, promotion or by deputation.

"At present, there is no proposal from ITBP to enhance its reserves in the Ladakh sector or the deployment of additional personnel along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the aforesaid sector," he said.

"However, in 2011, the government has approved raising of 13 additional battalions, 35 additional border outposts and enhanced the strength of the ITBP battalions."
