Man stabs wife, consumes poison - both in critical condition

Mangalurui, Jul 23: A man stabbed his wife and then tried to end his own life at Kolakady near Mulky on Tuesday July 21. The wife, who suffered grievous injuries in the attack, is fighting for life in a hospital in the city.

The man who tried to kill his wife has been identified as Jayaraj (44), a resident of Kolakady. His wife, Suneeta (38), was stabbed by him.

Theirs was an inter-caste marriage. The couple has a son and two daughters. Since sometime, differences arose between the two, and therefore, quarrels between the husband and wife had become a routine affair, neighbours said. On Tuesday, the verbal duel got prolonged, at the end of which Jayaraj rushed to the kitchen, brought out the kitchen knife, and stabbed his wife in the abdomen region, inflicting grave injuries on her.

Jayaraj, who worked as an auto rickshaw driver at Mulky, then consumed some poisonous substance. Thereafter he arrived at Mulky bus stand in his auto rickshaw. Locals saw that he was unable to walk steadily, and admitted him into a private hospital at Mangaluru.

The locals took Suneeta to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. The policemen said that the condition of both the injured continues to be critical.
