NGT bans burning of garbage in Vrindavan

Vrindavan, Jul 23 (IANS): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday ordered a ban on burning of waste in this holy town in Uttar Pradesh.

On a petition filed by activist Madhu Mangal Shukla, the tribunal asked the municipality to look for a land fill site and submit a report within four weeks.

It also directed the civic body to immediately stop dumping of garbage on the Yamuna floodplains.

Shukla told IANS that the NGT took a very stern view of the local body's failure to address the problem of garbage and litter in Vrindavan.
