Mangaluru, Jul 23: The goal of cosmetic surgery is to enhance a person's appearance and, thereby self-esteem, by changing the way she or he looks. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on any part of the face and body.
Cosmetic surgeries can help to correct external defects from birth or those caused by accident. Such a surgery can give a person a second lease of life.
If someone is not born with good looks, there should not be any worry. As the best creation of God, man has found out many techniques that will make life easier, cosmetic surgery being one among them.
Cosmetic surgery is very common among celebrities. Previously it was being done only in the West, but now these surgeries have stepped into our country too. As a matter of fact, it has also entered our city and quickly gained popularity.
Leading plastic and cosmetic surgeon of Mangaluru Dr B K Sathishchandra, MS, Mch, who is a professor at K S Hegde Medical College and Hospital, Deralakatte, is a well-known name in reconstruction surgeries in Mangaluru. He is also associated with Sparsha Medical Centre in the city.
Dr Sathishchandra did his MCH training from Grant Medical College and Sir J J Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, one of the reputed institutions for plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in India and abroad. He has also worked in prestigious institutions like Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore for hand surgery, Nizams Institute, Hyderabad for microsurgery, Vasudhan Arjin Centre, Mumbai for laser and cosmetic surgery, GT Hospital and St George Hospital, Mumbai. He has received specialised training with many national and international faculties for different cosmetic and plastic surgical procedures.
Dr Sathishchandra points out, "Clients come with an aspiration to enhance their looks. They are normal people but do not like something about their appearance. Nose correction is one among them. We treat them and correct the nose. We also do hair transplant. We have tablets for hair fall which are only available at our clinic. For hair transplant one needs to have hair at the back. Normally everyone will have some hair at the back even if they are bald. We take the hair from the back and place in the front, so appearance of baldness disappears. Youngsters who are overweight often come for liposuction. This is not a means to reduce weight, but to shape the body. Obese people with 130-140 kg of weight should not go for this surgery."
He further says, "I have been here for the last 8 years. Initially I started with reconstruction. Slowly I started cosmetic surgery. People want this surgery but they do not want to tell or show that they have undergone such a surgery. The response has really increased, because of awareness among people. These are all safe surgeries compared to all other surgeries. These surgeries are done under local or general anaesthesia. Hair transplant is a delicate procedure, so it takes about 8 hours. Liposuction is done in 2 hours. All the surgeries are done on a day care procedure. Clients need to come in the morning and they can go back by evening."
Dr Sathishchandra performs cosmetic procedures generally opted by people such as:
1. Breast augmentation
2. Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)
3. Eyelid surgery (eye lift)
