Mangaluru, Jul 23: Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishath, Karnataka Karavali Nrithya Kala Parishath, Lalitha Kala Parishath and Samskara Bharati Mangaluru observed a condolence meet for legendary danseuse and dance teacher Jayalakshmi Alva on Thursday July 23, at Hotel Woodlands, Mangaluru.

After offering a floral tribute to the portrait of Jayalakshmi Alva, addressing the gathering Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishath said, "Jayalakshmi Alva was a one of the best Bharatanatyam artistes. I feel sad losing her. Her achievement in the art is outstanding."

Ananthakrishna, chairman of Karnataka bank said " Alva gave importance to the classical dance. Let God give strength to her followers and their family members to bear the pain."

Kamalaksha in his speech remembered her and said, "Though she was much educated, she was simple and mingled with everyone. She had showed her concerns over saving the classical art. It is like we have lost our mother in the Bharatanatyam field."

Vijaya Lakshmi Shetty, Harikrishna Punarur, Hemanath, Ranganath Hegde, Dr B Devadas Pai, Late Jayalakshmi Alva's first pupil Srilekha Mehtha, Roy Castelino and others were also present on this occasion.
