Konkani Samudai of Jayanagar crosses decennial milestone

Bengaluru, Jul 23: A small group of Konkani lovers of Jayanagar in Bengaluru, who got together to form the Konkani Samudai association, celebrated the decennial anniversary of the Konkani Samudai recently with a strong and vibrant band of about 250 families as members.

The Konkani Samudai members belong to different localities around Jayanagar like J P Nagar, Bannerghatta, B T M Layout and other surrounding areas.

Rev Sr Jyothsna, AC, Headmistress of St Anthony’s Higher Primary School, Jayanagar, and noted Konkani writer and preacher Rev Fr V J Menezes, OFM Cap, were honoured on the occasion along with all the past presidents of the Konkani Samudai.

ASSOCHAM Co-chairman Jacob Crasta, who is also the past president of FKCCI, Mark D’Souza, former KE Bengaluru chairman, and FKCA Chairman Edward D’Souza, who were the chief guests at the decennial celebration, lauded the vision and organising zeal of the founders, especially Charles Gomes and his wife Anitha Gomes, and their continued support for the cause of Konkani.

Konkani Samudai President Irene D’Souza and Secretary Vinod Monteiro ensured the success of the decennial celerbations. A souvenir brought out to mark the occasion was also released.

Awards were presented to the children’s of Konkani Samudai members, who had excelled in studies and extra-curricular activities and also to the winners of the throw ball players, who had won in the inter-association throw ball match conducted by FKCA, Bangalore

A short show of the activities that took place in the past 10 years was displayed in the LCD. Rev Fr Ivan Madtha and his team staged a gospel magic show with the use of magic tricks and comical acts to propagate the word of God.

Vernon Dsouza Compered the show. Around 400 people were present to witness this decennial celebration and applauded the show.
