Shivamogga, Jul 24: In a case of shameless incest that came out into the open at Mandaghatta village in the taluk, a promiscuous man who raped his own daughter repeatedly, and got himself involved with her delivery after she became pregnant, was found to have kept both mother and child under confinement at his home.

As soon as they learnt about this shocking incident, officials of social welfare department raided the house, released the mother-child duo, and got them admitted into hospital. The accused stands arrested.

The arrested person has been identified as Kempa (45), a native of Karkala. He has three children, and had separated from wife due to family quarrel. Two of his children went away with their mother, while the 16-year-old daughter chose to live with her father. Kempa had joined a centre in Mandaghatta where sheep and rabbits are raised as a coolie a year back, and lived there with daughter.

It is learnt that he repeatedly raped his daughter. As he was afraid that his act of incest would become public if his pregnant daughter is taken to hospital, he himself supervised her childbirth on Saturday last. Even after delivery, he confined the girl and her child at home, without providing them medical care. As they were not properly looked after and treated, both mother and child had become sick.

A villager came to know about this development. He called the Childline and explained about this incident. The officials then raided the spot with policemen, and took the accused into custody.

It is not yet known as to where the wife and two children of the accused presently live. The officials, who said that the girl and her child are in the hospital, exuded confidence of finding out the whereabouts of the girl's mother.
