Two Ghaziabad policemen injured in liquor mafia attack


Ghaziabad, July 24 (IANS): Two constables were critically injured when members of a liquor mafia attacked a police team who raided their hideout here.

The incident occurred on Thursday night in the city's Nandgram locality.

Police said following a tip off the police team raided the hideout in Nandgram , where the mafia stocked liquor smuggled from Haryana.

When the liquor mafia realised that the police team had identified their place and were at the gate, its members attacked the team from two sides in a narrow lane.

Not able to defend themselves, some of the policemen ran away but some were beaten up by the goons.

Two constables sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a government hospital where their condition was said to be critical.

"We have registered a criminal case against 15 to 20 unidentified liquor smugglers under sections of the IPC. The constables have been shifted to a private hospital for better treatment" said police officer Upemdra Yadav.
