Kochi, July 24 (IANS): Discussions have begun to operate ship services from Cochin to the US East Coast, said an official of the Cochin Port Trust.
A US trade delegation from the president's executive office, on tour to India, visited the Cochin Port Trust on Friday and held detailed discussions to explore avenues of closer commercial cooperation on port-led investments.
The team led by US Deputy Trade Representative Robert Holleyman and comprising senior officials from the US embassy in India held discussions with Chochin Port Trust chairman Paul Antony and others.
"Today cargo ships mostly operate from the Middle East and China and this is the first time that a direct connectivity to the US' East Coast is being discussed," said the official who did not wish to be identified.
The US team also evinced keen interest in commercial developments related to the outer harbour in Cochin Port.
