Art, literature create awareness on e-waste in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 24 (IANS): It was a day of audio-story telling, poetry reading and street theatre as concerned citizens and students harnessed art and literature at an event here on Friday to generate awareness on littering and e-waste.

To start a dialogue on sustainable consumption, various cultural organisations and groups organised a series of interesting performances at the Jadavpur University here.

A witty audio story presentation titled 'Walk-e-Bohal' by AAA Associates engaged participants in a narrative about the perils of e-waste while an action-packed street play 'Chi Chi Etta Zanzal' (Disgusting... this is garbage) by the group Shriek of Silence set the tone for the Microsoft GIZ 'Create to Inspire' campaign.

In addition, a dance experiment by Sapphire Creations Dance Company and installations of huge framed photographs of littered areas of the city also helped to impress upon the spectators the importance of recycling and waste management, according to project head Paramita Saha.

Interactive poetry and story reading sessions were also held beneath the innovative 'Story Tree' at the campus.
