Kundapur, Jul 24: Police in Amasebail have registered cases against eight persons allegedly involved in lending money with very high interest, notoriously known as meter interest.

Only a few days back a similar case relating to meter interest was registered at Gangolli police station.

The action against the eight moneylenders was initiated after it was learned that Amasebail gram panchayat member Srinivas Poojary tried to commit suicide because of the harassment by them. Kundapur tahasildar Gayathri Nayak and Kundapur DySP M Manjunath Shetty with revenue officials went to Srinivas Poojary’s house and promised him that they would try to sort out his problem.

As per information, Srinivas had availed a loan from the money lenders on exorbitant interest rate. When he could not pay back in time and after he went through harassment by the moneylenders, he came to the decision of ending life. But as a last resort, he approached farmers association (Raitha Sangha). They brought the matter to the notice of deputy commissioner and police superintendent.

When the officials went to Srinivas’s house on Thursday July 24 evening, they learned that Srinivas had taken a loan of Rs 13 lacs on his property and vehicle. In order to settle that loan, he had to availed loans amounting to Rs 9 lac from the money lenders. A moneylender named Shekar Shetty had taken the documents of his 407 transport vehicle. Three property documents were also taken from Srinivas by the moneylenders. (Survey no. 159/13 for 1.16 acres, survey no. 128-P1 for 1.26 acres and survey number 127 for 90 cents). The moneylenders had also made him sign the documents and cheques.

Tahasildar and DySP after listening to Srinivas’s woes made arrangements to register cases against the money lenders into custody. Accordingly a were registered against Lakshman Shetty Kundapur, Shekar Shetty Kavrady, Kiran Shetty Hengavally, Sitaram Shetty Baluvalli, Narayan Shetty Baluvalli, Prashanth Thombattu, Divanand Kodgi Amasebail and Ansar Saheb Kandlur as per the Karnataka money lenders act . Taking loan from 'loan sharks' should be final resort!! Once a sizable loan is taken, the person concerned will not be even able to repay the interest, forget the principal, over a period of time and will have to ultimately forgo his house and property also!!

And those taking loans from the 'sharks' for fulfilling their wants of buying luxury cars/gizmos et al deserve it in one way!!

BTW, it appears a lots of people are earning their bread and butter by doing money lending business, because most of people whom you ask what they are into, they will either say 'finance' (money lending), insurance agent, or realty broker!! Jai Mangluru!!

I could not understand why Ansar Saheb Kandlur is also involved in this illegal business.. Does he want to make more money by sucking blood of poor. What a shame. Mr. Ansar don't you feel shame for this. Don't you have any other way to ear legally. Hope you will realize your mistake and ask pardon from the Lord who has blessed with enough wealth. Be grateful to God and be happy with whatever you have. Don't be greedy and get cursed by the poor.

Put the blood suckers behind bars. They are truly murderers of a different kind. It is time that Farmers in India are counselled by various organisation and advice them how make their profitable. Government will do nothing on their own as the political parties are busy fighting for power and wealth. So the people of India have to start doing something for farmers who are our bread and butter.
