Haryana city creates world record with over two lakh saplings


Gurgaon, July 25 (IANS): People in Haryana's Faridabad city on Saturday planted over two lakh saplings in three hours, a feat entered into the Limca Book Of Records as a world record.

The plantation drive was led by Faridabad Navchetna Trust in which Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and a union minister of state participated along with over one lakh people.

Thousands of volunteers of NGO Faridabad Navchetna Trust, thousands of common people and several Haryana ministers and sportsmen planted over two lakh saplings of various species including Alstonia, Kadam, Gulmohar, Jacaranda, Neem, Ficus, Jamun, Guava, Mango and Palm.

Vipul Goyal, Faridabad legislator and chairman of Faridabad Navchetna Trust, said the tree plantation drive has entered the Limca Book of World Records.

V.V.R. Murthy, regional head of the Limca record book, visited the spot and declared it a world record made in just three hours.

Khattar, union MoS Krishanpal Gujjar, Haryana ministers Capt. Abhimanyu, Rao Narbir Singh, senior BJP leader and Haryana BJP-in-charge Anil Jain, CPS Seema Trikha, Olympic boxer Vijender Singh and shooter Ronjan Sodhi also planted saplings.

Schools and colleges across the city supported the 'Ek Din-Go Green' campaign and citizens were encouraged to adopt a tree by registering through the web portal or via SMS.

One lakh saplings were planted and adopted by residents.

Chief Minister Khattar said the recounting of these plants would be done in October.
