Bantwal: Husband gets jail for not paying maintenance to wife

Bantwal, Jul 26: A court has awarded a 30 days sentence to a person for not paying maintenance to his wife.

Ramesh (33) from Kayarthodi is the person who has to undergo the sentence for not paying his wife Umashankari, the monthly maintenance ordered by the court.

Umashankari (33) from Alakemajalu in Bantwal had gone to court demanding maintenance from her husband Ramesh. The court had ordered Ramesh to pay her a specified amount as monthly maintenance. Ramesh who had agreed to do it, failed to honour his word.

Umashankari again went to court complaining that Ramesh has not paid her any amount. The court took the matter seriously and said that Ramesh will go to jail for a duration of 30 days for not following the court order.

Advocate Sudarshan Kumar Muliya had argued for Umashankari.
