Bhubaneswar, July 27 (IANS): Security personnel on Monday recovered the bodies of two Maoists from a forest in Odisha after an overnight gun battle with the rebels, police said.

Police recovered the bodies from Madaguda forest in Kandhamal district on Monday morning.

"We have recovered two bullet ridden bodies from the encounter site and three rifles, live cartridges and some Maoist material have also been found in the area," Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh told the media.

Combing operations were intensified after the seizure, he added.

Amitabh Thakur, inspector general (southern range), said a joint operation was carried out on Sunday night following a tip-off about the presence of Maoist rebels in the forest.
