London, May 27: UK Konkans lived up to their word and delivered a wonderful event in the form of Konkan Day for the entire Konkani community. There was heaps of praise for every one, the organisers, the participants and the performers.
Although the weather outside St. Chad’s RC Church Hall was not all that great, the environment inside was electrifying.
Stanislaus Mendonca, president of UK Konkans welcomed the gathering for this year’s edition of Konkan Day after which Raphael D’Souza took over the proceedings and conducted the program.
After the inaugural welcome speech, UK Konkans office bearers joined hands and synchronized their vocals to UK Konkans’ theme song.
Konkan March soon followed the theme song, and the entire hall joined hands to form a wonderful march, depicting the unity we carry with us, showcasing the purpose of gathering in a common place under a single roof and banner.
There were plenty of skits and short plays that touched the ticklish sides of every member of the gathering. Comedy through mimicry brought tears of laughter and stomach aching pain.
Youngsters and adults, all joined the fun and actively participated in dance performances and various dances.
Children were tested for their knowledge of Konkani through ‘Konkani Quiz’ hosted by renowned author and performer, Ashuntha Pereira.
Mouth watering and finger licking delicious food was made available, bringing back memories of home food cooked and served in Mangalorean homes.
As the saying goes, all good things come to an end, Konkan Day ended with a high note. There were spot prizes, bingo, baila and many other events which the gathering thoroughly participated and enjoyed.
Overall, the crowd had the perfect beginning to their summer and UK Konkans can now boast of yet another successful event.
With a view to keep the Konkani Community united and closely knit, the organising committee has promised many such events in the future and expects to add many new presentations.
