Jung okays Maliwal as DCW chief

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS): Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday approved the appointment of activist Swati Maliwal as the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, a Delhi government official said.

Jung, who earlier rejected her appointment saying the government had not consulted him, gave his nod after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal resent the file concering her appointment.

Jung and Kejriwal had locked horns last week over the appointment of Maliwal, wife of a senior Aam Aadmi Party leader.

The Lt. Governor termed her appointment "ultra vires" and asked the Delhi government to take his approval. Kejriwal protested but sent her file to him. Jung returned it saying the proper procedure was not followed.
