UP moves to clear stumbling blocks in way of Lucknow Metro


Lucknow, July 27 (IANS): In view of problems in negotiated purchase of private land for stations and other purposes for Lucknow Metro Rail project, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday set up a panel under the divisional commissioner for early resolution of bottlenecks, an official said.

At a high-level meeting to review the progress in the Lucknow Metro Rail, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan directed that the stumbling blocks in purchase of private land needed to be removed at the earliest and land made available to the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC).

Noting it was was an ambitious project of the state government and any delinquency in its implementation would not be pardoned, he asked the department of housing and urban planning to take immediate action on proposals received from different departments for providing the land to LMRC.

Directives were also issued to the Housing Development Board, Lucknow Development Authority and UP State Industrial Development Corporation to immediately provide the remaining amount of fiscal 2014-15 for development of metro rail to LMRC along with contribution specified for 2015-16.

LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav said that progress on primary section of metro rail was according to the key dates fixed for completion of works by December 2016.
