Belthangady: Pillion rider dies in road accident involving bus

Belthangady, Jul 28: A person seated on the pillion of a motor bike lost his life after the two-wheler got involved with an accident on Ujire-Charmadi road here on Monday July 27. In the accident, which occurred in the afternoon, the bike rider escaped with minor injuries.The accident occurred at Seetu near Mundaje.

Prashant Poojary (21), son of the late Krishna from Kanyadi near Dharmasthala lost his life in this accident. He was employed in a printing press in Dharmasthala. Sandesh, who was riding the motor bike, was admitted into a private hospital in Ujire for the treatment of his injuries.

When the motor bike was moving through Seetu, a luxury bus of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bound for Udupi coming from Bengaluru hit the two-wheer, which was moving towards Charmadi from the direction of Ujire. As per the complaint, the motor bike was trying to overtake another vehicle, when it collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction. The bus driver, in an effort to avoid hitting the bike, moved his bus into the roadside drain. None of the passengers or staff of the bus faced any harm.

Belthangady police, who have registered the case, are investigating.
