Turkey detains 1,050 suspects in anti-terror operations

Ankara, Jul 28 (IANS): Security forces here detained 1,050 suspects across 34 Turkish provinces since the nationwide anti-terrorist operations began in the country, a media report said.

Most of the suspects allegedly belong to the Islamic State (IS) group, Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), Xinhua reported, citing a statement released by the Turkish prime minister's office on Monday.

The statement also added that ambassadors of all 28 NATO allies will meet in Brussels on Tuesday following Ankara's request amid Turkey's operations against the outlawed organisations.

The office confirmed that Turkish jets hit PKK militants in northern Iraq on Sunday, targeting shelters, caves and warehouses of the terrorists.

An apparent suicide bombing ripped through a rally on July 20 in the Amara Cultural Park of Suruc, a town on the Turkish border with Syria. The attack left 28 dead and more than a hundred injured.
