Gujarat, MP, Odisha to have heavy rainfall: IMD

New Delhi, July 28 (IANS): There will be heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha over the next three days, the weather department forecast on Tuesday.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over south Rajasthan during the next 72 hours and over north Rajasthan on July 30 is expected. Southwest Madhya Pradesh is also likely to get heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The IMD said a depression over southwest Rajasthan intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over the region on Tuesday.

Due to another depression over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during the next 48 hours, the IMD said.

The Met Office warned that parts of Gujarat and the territories of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli are likely to receive "heavy to very heavy rainfall" between Wednesday and Friday.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences, in a cautionary statement, said: "Extremely heavy rain fall over Gujarat, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu is predicted for today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday).
