Thousands pay homage to former president Kalam

New Delhi, July 28 (IANS): Cries of "Abdul Kalam amar rahe (Long live Abdul Kalam)", rent the air as thousands of people arrived to pay homage to former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at his official residence here on Tuesday.

The mortal remains of Kalam, who died Monday evening, were brought from Shillong on Tuesday morning and kept at his residence, 10, Rajaji Marg.

With thousands queuing up to pay their homage to the "Missile Man of India", a stampede like situation prevailed at the otherwise quiet leafy enclave in Lutyens' Delhi.

The 11th president of India (2002-07), Kalam's last rites will be performed at his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
