NHRC notice to UP over youth's death

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS): The NHRC has issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government over a report that said a youth died after allegedly being pushed from a moving train by a travel ticket examiner (TTE).

Citing media reports, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said the deceased youth was travelling without a ticket on the Gorakhdham Express from Delhi to Gorakhpur on July 23 when the incident took place near Khalilabad railway station.

"Reportedly, the youth was travelling ticketless and the ticket examiner demanded Rs.500 which the victim refused to pay. This agitated the examiner who then pushed him out," the commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We have taken suo motu cognizance of the report and have issued notice to the secretary, railway board, and senior superintendent of railway police, Sant Kabir Nagar, calling for a report within two weeks," the commission added.
