Rajasthan gets NHRC notice over woman's rape by policeman

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS): The NHRC has issued notice to the Rajasthan government over a report that said a police assistant sub-inspector allegedly raped a woman.

Citing media reports, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said the accused assistant sub-inspector, posted at Chanana police post in Jhunjhunu, called the woman on the pretext of resolving a case of bootlegging of illicit liquor against her husband who was in police custody.

"The accused then raped the woman and threatened her not to reveal anything about the incident to anyone," the NHRC said in a statement on Wednesday.

It said a notice was sent to the Rajasthan chief secretary calling for a report within four weeks.
