BRT needs to be implemented properly: Kejriwal

New Delhi, July 29 (IANS): Days after scrapping the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said his government is not against it and it actually needs to be properly implemented in the city.

"We scrapped BRT because it was not implemented properly in Delhi. We are not against BRT system but it has to be implemented properly. It has been successfully implemented in various parts of the world. We'll do it in Delhi as well," Kejriwal said during a conference on Delhi Transport Vision held at the Delhi Secretariat.

The conference, participated in by experts from various departments like transport, traffic, DDA, PWD, environment and science, focussed on how public transport could be made better in the capital.

The Delhi government last week junked the controversial BRT corridor - a much-vaunted project of the previous Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government in the capital.

It was scrapped following public demand and increasing accidents on the stretch.
