Bengaluru: With bloated bills, 29 ministers claim Rs 13.8 cr as travel expenses, allowances

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (EP)

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Information obtained through RTI has has disclosed that 29 ministers of Karnataka have manipulated figures and made claims amounting to staggering Rs 13,79,98,244 towards travelling expenses, salary, guest allowance, house rent allowance, etc during the last two years.

Out of the above, Rs 6,26,97,721 was claimed towards salaries, house rent and guest allowance. The 29 ministers made claim totalling Rs 7,53,00,523 for travelling expenses alone. Even though rental cars are available at around Rs 15 per km, they have presented bloated bills ranging between Rs 20 to 30 per km, and drawn such exaggerated bills, the information says. This information was applied for and obtained by RTI activist, Bhemmappa Gadad.

Gadad says that none of the ministers are visiting the districts allotted to them regularly, nor are they discharging duties entrusted to them in a proper manner. He accordingly has charged these ministers of claiming unduly high allowances without working properly.

As per information, minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, is paid Rs 56,62,111, health minister, U T Khader Rs 54,42,657, forest minister Ramanath Rai Rs 51,44,218 and Baburao Chinchanoor Rs 44,63,127, with revenue minister Srinivasa Prasad claiming the least amount of Rs 2,29,286 towards travel and other allowances in these two years.

It is alleged that the ministers have drawn allowances by showing travel expenses at exorbitant rates beyond permissible rate, and drawing allowances thereof exceeding the prescribed limits, thus draining away public funds to the tune of crores of rupees.

    Dear All,
Please read, and analyze the data carefully before you guys comment.. This is a very close and realistic figure. 5% plus or minus is acceptable. I don't see any corruption in this. These figures are very less when compared to others. I'm not a politician nor I have any political connection. I just read the news and started calculating. Then I realized that these are standard expenses in todays world. So lets not politicalize this.

Thanks to RTI activist Bheemappa for exposing these corrupt chors who claim to be our representatives, while millions are are starving due to famine, etc. in Karnataka.

These chors must be forced to repay back from their salaries to the people of Karnataka, and continually monitored under the microscope of RTI activists and exposed then and there.

First they look for their own development and 50% (may be which is more than sufficient) will be used for the real development. Among the photos I see people who gave speeches praising our late Prez Dr. Kalam.

Clearly giving speeches or cutting ribbons is not Desha prema . One has to be worthy . Best examples were students raising money for the sick or donating money to the educational needs of needy students- these are worthy acts to condone the death of our beloved people president.

There seem to be double standards one for the common man and another for these privileged politicians. False claims do not become a crime just become irregularities.

If Prime Minister has claimed personally any thing for his pocket, it is shame full. But this is spent to build our nations prestige with neighboring countries. I think he has travelled extensively to ensure improve sunken image of India during UPA governance, without scolding them and to build a strong bondage between neigbhour states and ourselves as also with western countries. If we have read the papers regularly definitely we could have under stood the value of such visits. These visits not only improved our image and relationship with these countries, but also raised the scope for improving our economy development of infrastructure, bilateral business so on and so forth. Even China has come forward offering their expertise in railway route development. This has helped us a lot to have a permanent seat in U.N.O.
However in case of karnataka great ministers has pocketed inflated travelling allowance. On one hand they say they have come to serve the people. Is this the way of serving people of KARNATAKA. They do not want to work like senators in America, but want all the benefits of elected representatives of America. unfortunately forgetting that they live in India. Hundreds of farmers died during last couple of months. What these great M.L.A./ministers did to raise their morale ? Either they kept mum or made some sarcastic remarks about them. Majority of farmers have committed suicide because of sluggishness of the government in finding solution to get their sugar cane dues from the Sugar factory owners. Govt instead of giving assurances could have sold the sugar and paid the dues of the farmers. Instead they allowed the Factory owners to make undue delay in clearing the dues of farmers leading to series of suicide.
It is astonishing to note in papers that 40 more sugar factories applications are ready for clearance. Whether they have got idea how much irrigated land is required.

This article is about the misusing of tax payers’ money by congress ministers in Karnataka. You talk about that. Instead of that why you are bringing issues like Pakistan, Chaddi, Advani, Emergency….. It clearly shows your frustration and you are in a position to defend the misdeed of the political party your blindly follow.

Our governments (BJP, Congress or any other political party is the same)has money to reimburse the expenses of the elected representatives and government servants, but they have no funds to give us good roads, properly functioning government hospitals, decent seating arrangements for people coming to government offices (Recently when I had to go to the DC office at Mangalore, I observed that the place where people were seated was as good as a goods shed. However, the inside the office, it was just the opposite). They live on our money, yet don't give the facilities that are due to us. The saddest part is the treatment meted out by the governments to our teachers who toil to build this nation. Their salaries do not come in time and they are made to work like donkeys, just because they consider their profession as a mission and do not raise their voice.

    Vincy Bangkok,

Last BJP Govt was corrupt and gave a bad governance, that is why they were kicked out, people had great hope in congress govt when CM Siddu took oath & promised free & corrupt free govt in yr 2013 May, but looking at past 2 plus years, this current govt is equally corrupt & useless, there are several tainted ministers in current congress govt, just wait for another 2 plus years, Karnataka voters will boot them out, they don't deserve a second chance.

Our former President Pratibha Patil wants only car and fuel from the government. She could have worked with these outstanding ministers and gotten more.

    No body is an exception!
MPs in new central government spent crores in 5 Star Hotels though they were allotted Quarters within a year, how much will be the bill of foreign tours of them will come out by same RTI queries if intention of these activists is to save bloated bills of all the politicians irrespective of their party affiliations.
How can they claim they didn't work & on what basis?

Your comment is really stupid. He needs to go to visit other countries to strengthen the diplomatic relation that can help trade, and influence.

We need to criticize the government , but being cynical wont help anyone.

First PM should solve the problem which we have facing internally like farmers suicide, women’s safety, corruption…..etc…he would have given the money to farmers which he spent on foreign tour.

    Hamad,

Again I want to ask you is that why do you only point out at PM`s foreign visit expenses. You want to give money to farmers so that they stop committing suicide, spend on women’s safety, corruption…..etc… then take the money that is spent on infrastructure, military etc. Why build more airports?, Why buy more weapons?

Next why dont you suggest to increase the prices of the produce so that the farmers get more income? But then people like you would say prices have increased that its a strain on common man.

    Hamad,
This is not the first time our nation is seeing an agrarian crisis, there have been worst agrarian crisis even before but that did not mean we closed diplomatic ties with other nations, our PM's still travelled abroad. Don't mix foreign policy with internal troubles
