Mangaluru, Jul 30: The block education officer (BEO) visited a school here on Tuesday July 28, and inquired into an incident in which a school teacher had forcibly got haircut of a student done, after disapproving his action of coming to school with modern hairstyle.

The teacher's action had drawn flak from the parents of the student. They had complained to BEO and Panambur police about the incident on Tuesday. The BEO, taking serious view of the incident, had visited school along with Panambur police the same evening and questioned the concerned.

The officials questioned the teacher who was responsible for the incident, and the student concerned, separately. Later, a meeting was held with the school development and monitoring committee and parents of the boy. The parents said that they have been assured that the incident will not be overlooked, and would be dealt with the seriousness it deserves. It is gathered that on Wednesday, cluster resource person also visited the school in question on Wednesday.

The incident had occurred in a prestigious school at Bykampady in the city a few days back. Parents of a number of students had condemned the teacher's action, mobbed the school, and complained to the BEO.

The student in question, it is said, had opted to cut his hair in a fashionable way on account of Ramzan. The teacher, who found this objectionable, had directed the student to go to the barber and revert to normal haircut. As the student did not obey this instruction, the teacher herself called the barber to the school and got the haircut done to her satisfaction, it is reported.

The student needs to be cautioned to attend school decently attired, hair and all included, he is not attending Bollywood and not vice versa.

The teacher should be supported for his/her good advice to the student.

I cant understand what parents and what block education officer would investigate a teacher who is working hard to guide the students through the right path.

No wonder we have goondas roaming our streets!
