Two of four Indian teachers abducted by IS in Libya released

Updated

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI/Agencies): Lakshmikant and Vijay Kumar, two of the four Indians abducted by IS in Libya, were released today. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted about their release. Swaraj also mentioned that the government is working on the release of other two Indians who are still being held hostage.

Earlier, four Indian teachers, who were returning to India from Tripoli and Tunis, had been kidnapped in Libya, allegedly by the Islamic State terror group (IS).

Of them, two are from Hyderabad, other two are from Karanataka, Government said today, adding the four Indians were "detained" at a check point, about 50 km from Sirte. The area is under the control of the terror outfit.

"Three of them were faculty members at the University of Sirte and one was working at the Sirte University's brach in Jufra," MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said here.

"Two days ago, on July 29th at around 11 pm, our Mission in Tripoli came to know that four Indian nationals who were returning to India via Tripoli and Tunis, were detained at a checkpoint approximately 50 kms from Sirte. Of the four Indian nationals, two are from Hyderabad, one from Raichur and one from Bengaluru. Three of them were faculty members at the Sirte University and one was working at the Sirte University branch in Jufra," he said.

The Ministry of External Affairs, through its Head of Mission in Tripoli, is ascertaining the details regarding the incident. According to information available through our sources, all the four Indian nationals have been brought back to the city of Sirte, he said.

Official sources said no ransom demand has been made as yet. They said the area from where the Indians were kidnapped is under the control of the Islamic State, which has taken control of large swathes of Iraq and Syria and has declared itself a caliphate.

Taking serious note of the prevailing situation, the Indian government had in July last year issued an advisory asking its citizens to leave conflict-hit Libya.

The latest incident came even as 39 Indians remain missing in Iraq. They were taken hostage last year at the height of the fighting between Sunni militants and government forces and efforts to get their release have not yielded any results.

govt of india has already issued travel ban alert to its citizens from travelling libya, egypt, syria, yeman, iraq etc.but still these citizens ignored it.
isis is a baby of usa, saudi arabia, egypt, israel and other chiltu pultu small countries likuae, bahrain, qatar etc to showcase thier sectraian supremacy over shia countries like iran, syria.usa was conducting air strikes on these countries a month back .why it suddenly stopped airstrikes mysteriously without giving any explanation tells the story?usa and these countries have created this monster called isis for a reason.may be thier covert plan to create havoc in middle east, iran, syria, pakistan, afghainstan, china or russia.whenever usa thinks it is going weak economically or diplomatically and rival countries are gaining strength(read russia, china, iran, pak tilting towards china/russia from usa etc, they will resort to these type of covert actions.

in my opinion india is safe from isis as isis is a controlled puppet of usa and saudi arabia to teach lessons to iran, pak, china etc
and usa percieves india to be its strategic ally in this plan and saudi wants to keep india in good humour as it dont trust pakistan and want to avoid india
from being too close to iran.modi is visiting saudi arabia later this year.

i have visited more than 20 countries including usa, most of europe, aus, japan,nz,south korea, taiwan, china, uae and qatar.

i have more knowledge about geography and history including smaller countries like belize, png or east timor than a average history afficiando even though i am in very reputed position in software industry in a fortune 500 company.
i repeat once again uae, qatar, bahrain, kuwait, oman are chiltu pultu countries which are not even the size of dakshina kannada.just bcoz of oil reserves they are rich today.currently oil prices are also touching rock bottom.now the reality will dawn on these chiltu pultu countries.lolz

Our present NDA is busy with all scamgates and baseless unfulfilled promises of their speeches which are only to be spoken and realistic. Even if something is done by the civilians presence of mind they will take credit for it. At this stage the external ministry should act smartly to save our citizens.

For 39 Indians kidnaped by ISIS in Iraq, there is no help from sushma swaraj on humanitarian grounds.

For Lalit Modi on humanitarian grounds. It is a light giving candle to sushma Swaraj.

Chaaiwaala government is only for affluent's of Ambani, Bambanio, Timblo and komblo and tatas.
