Puttur: Land dispute with Anganwadi - CA Bank gets ownership

Puttur, Jul 31: The land dispute between the cooperative agricultural (CA) bank of Uppinangady at Hirebandady village, and the local Anganwadi centre over the ownership of the land, stands settled. On Thursday, after the revenue department conducted survey of the land, it was found that the site in dispute belongs to CA Bank.

The then deputy commissioner of the district had sanctioned ten cents of land in Hirebandady to Uppinangady CA Bank in survey no 238 in the year 2002-03. Land conversion was also sanctioned the same year. CA Bank had also got the hilly area levelled. But, in 1992-93, the then assistant commissioner set aside ten cents of land in survey no 234 for Anganwadi centre.

When CA Bank began construction of the compound wall on their site during the last week, some locals blocked this effort, claiming that this land was earmarked for construction of an Anganwadi building, while some others favoured CA Bank. Verbal friction and fistfight also occurred between the two factions of people during this incident.

Tahsildar, A T Kulle Gowda, visited the spot thereafter, and examined the situation. He found that there was discrepancy in survey of the land conducted in the past, and that border markers had not been placed during the survey, giving rise to this dispute. The tahsildar ordered re-survey of the land, and requested the people to maintain status quo till survey was conducted.

After survey work was conducted on Thursday, it was concluded that the site belongs to CA Bank. It was also found that the site allotted to Anganwadi exists atop a hillock. As it was found impossible to locate the proposed Anganwadi centre there, a separate ten cents plot was earmarked behind the panchayat office for the Anganwadi.

The survey work was conducted in the presence of village accountant, Chandra Naik, CA Bank president, Yashwant Gowda G, child development project officer, Shanti Hegde and several others.
