President Kalam's Birthday to Be Celebrated With Youth Inspiration Day in Tamil Nad


Chennai, July 31 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today said as a mark of respect to former President Abdul Kalam, her government has designated October 15, the Bharat Ratna's birthday, as "Youth Inspiration Day".

Ms Jayalalithaa said she has ordered the institution of 'Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Award' with a prize money of Rs. 5,00,000 and an eight gram gold medal.

She said the award would be given to a person who is a resident of the state and working for the development of science, student welfare and humanity.

According to Ms Jayalalithaa, the award would be given from this year onwards on Independence Day.

Dr Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram.

He was laid to rest on Thursday in Rameswaram with full military honours. He died on Monday in Meghalaya's Shillong city following cardiac arrest.
