Drug peddler held with heroin worth Rs.35 lakh

New Delhi, July 31 (IANS): A 33-year-old drug peddler has been arrested in the national capital while carrying heroin worth Rs.35 lakh, Delhi Police said on Friday.

Rajeev Gupta, a member of a drug cartel based in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, was arrested on Wednesday from Geeta Colony in east Delhi where he had gone to deliver a 170 gram heroin consignment.

Police said Gupta initially worked as a compounder for about three-four years in several private hospitals in Bareilly. He later began working as a taxi and truck driver.

"He came in contact with some bad elements while working as a driver. To meet his expenses, he started procuring heroin from drug peddlers in Bareilly for supply in Delhi," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.

"During this period, he came in contact with one Chottey Khan, who used to provide him heroin," said the official.
