UP Technical University renamed after Abdul Kalam


Lucknow, Aug 1 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday announced the UP Technical University is being renamed to honour late former president and distinguished scientist A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The UPTU would now be known as the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.

Recalling how Kalam had great affection for the state and had only recently inaugurated the 250 KV solar power plant in in Kannauj district, he also said that a grand memorial will be built in Kalam's memory in the varsity's new campus.

Akhilesh Yadav also said that Kalam's far-sighted vision and principles had a great impact on him and added that the state government was seriously considering the nine points suggested by former president for the state's economic and social development.
