Four injured in UP temple stampede

Lucknow, Aug 1 (IANS): Four people were injured after a stampede broke out at a temple in Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place late Friday after there were rumours that the devotees could get electrocuted at the Thakur Banke Bihari temple.

A district official told IANS that the barricade at Dauji Tiraha that leads to the temple broke and in the melee that followed a woman got a mild shock from an electrical junction box in the narrow lanes.

Her infant daughter slipped out of her arms and it resulted in a stampede.

The temple management announced that it was just a rumour and urged the people to stay calm, but it took more than an hour to control the panicking devotees.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital and their condition is said to be out of danger.
