Puttur: Uppinangady Police Seize Unaccounted Rs 60 Lac in Cash

  • Police sources suspect hawala or election funding behind the catch

Puttur, Jun 1: The Uppinangady police have seized cash worth Rs 60 lac and arrested 2 persons early hours of Friday Jun 1.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammed and Mohammed Ashraf, resident of Bekal in Kasargod district.  They were travelling from Bangalore to Mangalore carrying money in a bag.

Police intercepted the bus at Nellyady near Uppinangady upon receiving a sure tip-off.  Since the identity of the persons had not been revealed, police had to search all the passengers until finally pinning down the accused duo.

ASP Dr Harsha is said to have already reached Uppinangady to lead further inquiry.  Sources said that so far it is not yet sure as whether it was 'Hawala' money or money being brought to distribute to voters in Ullal constituency.
