Udupi: One killed as truck rams into bike near Santhekatte

Udupi, Aug 2: One person was killed and another injured when a truck rammed into a bike on NH 66 near Santhekatte here on Sunday August 2.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok (32), a resident of KG Road, Salmar.

Ashok was riding the bike. Ramesh, who was sitting pillion, was injured in the accident.

The accident took place when a truck plying from Kundapur to Udupi tried to overtake another vehicle and rammed head-on into the bike, killing Ashok on the spot.

Ramesh, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to hospital.

Traffic police have registered a case.

    Why not install more signals in a junction..at least vehicles will slow down to some proportion.
    Very difficult even to cross the road..due to plying of vehicles from six or more corners.
    Trucks which are coming from other states not aware much entering to busiest area as considered itself to be a highway.

    Better to extend more of road by placing divider in between especially to cross from one end to another.

    It's daily routine while people coming from bike and having either 60 or 90..and ride all together fast.

    I request the concerned authorities please construct speed breakers both sides of the highway as well as warning signs. Crossing the highway is dangerous for school kids and elders. Underpass or over bridge crossing necessary at this junction. My sympathies to the deceased family.

    Lack of traffic awareness, careless attitude of Road users responsible for increasing road accidents.Speed breakers are not the solution. even slow moving vehicles also can cause accident.

    KG Road to Ambagilu udupi very danger place to drive. Congested Uppoor kallilanpur bridge and damaged road up to santekatte and in between overtaking bus and trucks made this danger zone. Traffic department negligence also one of the reason for more accident in this zone.Reddy brothers are in jail that is the reason highway not completed the answer I got from some people in my last vacation.

    Many lives are taken away santhekatte spot. sunday's crowded these area due to SANTHE ,
    bus, lorry and cars are going on high speed on these road,
    Why udupi traffic not taking any actions so far is a quation and local leaders are simply waste.

    May Ashok's soul rest in Peace. Unfortunate, there are no traffic lights at important intersections around Udipi District. Know certain cities are way too behind implementing traffic posts, signals and above all traffic rules. Are there any traffic rule books made to educate drivers or prior to issue driver licence ? I am afraid not. We are miles away, and years behind. It is time something needs to be done to save lives.
