Belthangady: Rape attempt accused held - victim undergoes mental trauma

Belthangady, Aug 3: Uppinangady police have arrested a person, who has been accused of entering a house when a young lady was alone there, and trying to rape her. The arrest was affected on Sunday August 2. The lady said he had been routinely misbehaving with her since sometime.

The arrested rape accused happens to be Sameer from Hallineri near Kokkada. It is reported that he used to behave in an obscene manner with the lady in question. On the night of Saturday, he entered the lady's house when she was alone there. After the lady raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to the spot, but by then the accused had fled from the spot, it is learnt.

The situation in Kokkada turned tense after this information spread. The lady, who underwent mental shock at this development, was admitted into a private hospital in Puttur, where she is undergoing treatment at present. The woman said that some of the friends of Sameer gathered in front of her house after the incident and behaved in a vulgar manner.

The arrested person claimed that he is just 15-year-old, and sought to be treated as a juvenile delinquent, it is gathered. The policemen have decided to verify his school records to determine his age in view of this request.

Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, who visited Kokkada in the backdrop of this incident and the anger seething among the locals thereupon, promised the people that he would ask the police to arrest the other accused who supported the accused in the act. He warned that the people will be forced to organize protests, if the police try to protect those who attacked and robbed petrol bunk employees here sometime back.

BJP leader, Poovaje Kushalappa Gowda, Sautadka Mahaganpati Temple governing council president, Krishna Bhat, former gram panchayat member, Laxminarayan, Raghava Bhandary, an others were present.
