Motor bike rider killed in lorry-bike accident at Santhekatte

Udupi, Aug 3: The rider of a motor bike was killed on the spot after his two-wheeler was hit by a truck which came from the opposite direction. The accident occurred on Sunday August 2 on national highway 66 at Kallianpur Santhekatte near here.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Salian (32), native of Uppoor Salmara in the taluk. Ramesh Poojary, who was the pillion rider, suffered injuries. He stands admitted into a private hospital in the town.

The motor bike was moving towards Santhekatte from Uppoor, whereas the truck in question was being driven towards Brahmavar from the direction of Udupi. Reportedly, the truck driver, who was driving the vehicle recklessly and at high speed, was trying to overtake another vehicle, when his vehicle hit the motor bike.

Both the people on the two-wheeler were knocked down from the vehicle to the road due to the impact of the collision. Ashok, who suffered severe head injuries, did on the spot, whereas Ramesh Poojary, who sustained grievous injuries, was taken to the town for treatment.
