Sydney siege gunman partner to stand trial for murder

Sydney, Aug 3 (IANS): The former partner of the 2014 Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis has been committed to stand trial for the murder of the latter's ex-wife, a media report said on Monday.

Amirah Droudis, 36, is accused of murdering Noleen Pal, Monis' ex-wife, who was stabbed and set alight at a western Sydney apartment block in April 2013, Xinhua reported.

Monis, along with two victims, died following a 17-hour stand-off with authorities after taking 18 people hostage at the populate Lindt Cafe in Sydney in December 2014.

Monis was on bail at the time for allegedly being an accessory to Pal's murder.

Droudis had her bail revoked shortly after the Sydney siege, following a review ordered by then New South Wales attorney general Brad Hazzard.

The crown prosecutor argued that Droudis posed a risk to the community given the content of a video that was tendered to court, in which she allegedly spoke about terrorism.

Droudis will stand trial in September.
