Mangaluru, Aug 3: Two pipelines at Kannur here burst two days ago, resulting in heavy loss of water.

The pipelines, each of 18 mgd capacity and connected to the Thumbay dam, burst on Saturday August 1, causing water to flood the area.

Mayor Jacintha Alfred along with MCC engineers and officials inspected the spot on Sunday August 2, and the repair work has already been undertaken to repair the pipes. One pipeline has been set right, while work on the other one is going on. The water is being drained out, it is learnt.

MLA J R Lobo who visited the spot on Monday August 3 told reporters, "One pipeline has been repaired and work on another one is going on. It will be done as soon as possible."

Regarding reason for the pipe burst, he said, "It is suspected that people in the adjacent land dumped red mud on the pipes, which led to increase in pressure and damaged the pipes. I have directed the corporation officials to take action against the owners of the land.

"Sixty percent of the work is done with the repair of one pipe, and the rest will be completed soon," he added.

Mayor Jacintha Alfred said, "The water pipes have been damaged and engineers and staff have been working hard from yesterday to repair them. The repair work will be over at the earliest."

What a pathetic condition in Mangalore !
Sine last FIVE days no water and no responsible person from MCC is bothered to issue statement when they will restore water supply. Till Wednesday morning 7.30 am no water is supplied to our Area.
Corporator and their gang may not require water as they drink 'Neat'.
But other people require water for at least bath & toilets.

All the Corporators and their Chelas are getting the supply of free water by Tanker of Corporation daily twice since Sunday, but rest of the citizens are left high & dry. Just see what kind of foolish people we have elected to represent us in Corporation who doesn't even care for immediate neighbours !
Till the evening of Tuesday there is no water supply to our Area in Ashok Nagar. Which means we have to wait till Wednesday morning ?

Water Supply has not started till now (2.20 pm 4-8-2015) in our Lady Hill, Urva Market, Matadakani, Boloor Area and the Authorities are stating that just like every Tuesday today also there is Power cut by MESCOM since morning and hence they are not able to pump the water to Lady Hill storage tank. So blame MESCOM for delay in getting water today. At least today MESCOM could have avoided power cut and done the same tomorrow to facilitate pumping of water today.
Anyway, the Selfish Corporator of our area has managed to get water through Corporation's water supply Tankers free of cost since last two days, while all her neighbors are suffering without water since last two days!

What a lame excuse by our disctrict administration. Whether it is a businessman, politician or a real thief, no one admits their mistakes.

Our city corporation has no proper plan. They do not study the plans with other associated departments in order to avoid major expenditure, where both departments can share the expenditure to minimise the project cost. Just to give an example, Mangalore roads are being concreted without any proper plan. Within few days they cut open to attend water leak. When it comes to concreting roads associated departments are Telecommunication, Drainage, water supply, Electrical. However, all are not taken into consideration.

I have been noticing since 8 years the pipeline is bursting frequently from kankanady to padil stretch. I remember one incident which happened rite in front of our house in naguri the pipeline had burst sending all the bikes from nearby garage into the drain the sound of the burst was so loud that people from maroli had come to see what had happened. leaving the city without water for two prolonged days.

These pipes are very old and cannot hold pressure, i request the district administration to change the whole stretch of pipeline from thumbay to bendur so that these kind of bursts does not occur in near future.

If I am not mistaken these pipes must have been laid during 1950-60s or rather earlier.
