Udupi: Youth snatches away gold chain from woman's neck

Udupi, Aug 4: A thief who followed a old lady proceeding towards her house from Palimaru town, snatched away a golden chain from her neck before escaping. The incident occurred on Monday August 3 afternoon.

Saraswati Amma, residing near Lord Vishnumurty Temple at Palimaru lost her chain in the process. She said the gold chain was weighing around 24 grams.

Saraswati had visited Suratkal in the company her son, Sudhakar Rao, for attending to her eye-related problem. While returning, she had taken rest for sometime in a shop at Palimar, before starting to walk alone towards her home. It is said that at the same time, a youth had visited this particular shop, and had left the shop immediately after the lady went on her way.

Within seconds, the woman shouted that she had been robbed. At the same time, the above youth sped away in a motor bike. Therefore, it is thought that the youngster stated above had snatched the chain.

A case was filed in Padubidri police station in this connection. Investigation has begun.
