India, Pakistan trade heavy fire on border

Jammu, Aug 4 (IANS): India and Pakistan on Tuesday traded heavy fire on the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The Border Security Force noticed suspicious movements near a border outpost in Kanachak area of the Jammu district during the night, a police officer told IANS.

"BSF fired to thwart any possible infiltration attempt after which it was quiet till morning.

"But at 6.05 a.m., Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at the BSF border outpost," he added.

BSF retaliated effectively and heavy firing exchanges are underway.

On Monday, the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire at four places on the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.
