Former minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh passes away following cardiac arrest


Aug 4, (Hindustan Times):Former minister and senior Dalit leader Chaudhary Jagjit Singh passed away following cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning. He was 81.

A five-time MLA from Kartarpur assembly segment of Jalandhar district, Chaudhary served as local bodies minister in Captain Amarinder Singh led Congress government between 2002 to 2007 and was counted as one of the close confidant of Captain.

His brother Santokh Chaudhary is at present Member of Parliament from Jalandhar.

Jagjit's nephew and Punjab Youth Congress chief, Vikram Chaudhary, said that his uncle felt pane in the chest due to which he was admitted in a local private hospital on Monday night. On Tuesday morning he breathed his last at around 6 am, he said.

Jagjit was facing trial in high profile Ludhiana City Centre scam alongwith Amarinder and had lost last two assembly elections from Kartarpur.
